An office building in St. Louis sold for $3.6 million after selling for $205 million 18 years prior. Downtown St. Louis is filled with unoccupied buildings and an unwillingness to visit them. The steep drop in the tower's value is just one sign that St. Louis' central business district is struggling, reports say. Indeed, St. Louis' downtown resembles a ghost town with a number of boarded-up buildings, according to The Wall Street Journal's Konrad Putzier. AdvertisementThe problem with Midwestern cities, like St. Louis, is that there's not much attracting people to the center of the city — and that applies to commuters, tourists, and residents.

To Danny Yong, the Middle East is still Asia. In particular, multi-strategy hedge funds, the industry subset that large allocators are desperate for thanks to their uncorrelated and consistent returns, are growing in markets like Hong Kong and Singapore. Houston-based Pan Capital is planning to hire macro PMs in Hong Kong this year. These people-heavy firms need plenty of talent to make it all work, and the relatively small size of the Singapore market, coupled with political uncertainty in Hong Kong, puts a strain on the entire system. "Managers follow allocator trends, and the Middle East has been actively allocating while other regions have slowed their deployment.

According to NASA, this year's eclipse is set to last three to four minutes, longer than the last solar eclipse, in 2017. Former President Donald Trump looked up at the solar eclipse without glasses during the last eclipse. The glasses sold for $1.50 to $2 apiece. Alpha capture strategies take inputs from sources like human traders, market data, sell-side research, and more and then use a systematic process to create a portfolio that is efficiently sized and hedged. AI researchers have struggled with hedge funds' culture around proprietary secrets, which goes against the open-source philosophy foundational to AI and academia. Some recruiters, including Michael Stover, are seeing double- and triple-digit growth in AI hiring among hedge funds and prop-trading firms. For heads of AI, he said, hedge funds are dishing out a minimum of $1.5 million in total comp. But perhaps the top reason hedge funds are interested in the technology is that AI capabilities are bait in the war for investing talent. It's one of the few large US hedge funds without an executive or centralized team dedicated to AI or machine learning.

The bad news prompted some bond investors to question whether Bayer should sweeten the terms of the deal or outright pull it, one of the sources said. The drug-to-pesticides group priced the investment grade bond on Thursday last week, with the deal closing on Tuesday. Bayer priced bonds with maturities between three to 30 years. It was the 10th largest investment grade bond deal by an industrial company this year and attracted more than $22 billion in orders, according to Informa Global Markets. The events were "not enough to trigger a material adverse change clause in bond documents for investors to ask to be paid back," said CreditSights' Brady.

Ten-year Treasury yields hit a 16-year high of 5.021% in late October, but have fallen back to 4.414%. Some big investors and advisers believe, however, that reasons to cheer are short-lived and growing concerns over the economy will start weighting on asset prices early next year. His focus now is more on earnings, credit markets and broader economic data for signs of a potential slowdown. The U.S. presidential race next year is also a concern because it could be a source of more market instability. For a new boost in market performance, tech stocks will depend more on showing how AI can lift results, investors said.
